Game Day Storylines vs Kansas City

March 9, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Steel Reel

The Steelheads welcome the Kansas City Mavericks to CenturyLink Arena on Friday night for the first time since April of 2016, and the second time ever, to kick off a two-game set. The Steelheads hope to recover from a 2-1 shootout loss on Wednesday against the Allen Americans, while the Kansas City Mavericks have won three in a row to climb into the final playoff spot in the Central Division. Idaho is 2-2-0 all-time against the Mavericks, with both of last year's meetings coming at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

Brady Brassart netted the only goal for the Steelheads on Wednesday night, a power play deflection midway through the second period. The Americans responded with a power play goal of their own on a rebound finish by Alex Guptill during a 5-on-3 just over four minutes later. Tomas Sholl made 23 saves in his Steelheads debut to stay undefeated in regulation in nine ECHL appearances this season, but Guptill and Casey Pierro-Zabotel scored in the shootout to earn two points for Allen.

Brass and Bold...

Brady Brassart's power play goal on Wednesday was his 19th goal of the season, and his seventh on the power play. Brassart continues to enjoy his best pro season, already with a career-high in goals and only two points shy of his career-high in points, when he had 43 points in 65 games for Quad City compared to his 41 points in 39 games this season. With Wednesday's goal Brassart has three goals and ten points in his last nine outings.

Mac is Back...

Steve McParland returns to the Steelhead lineup after being released from his professional tryout agreement with AHL Texas. McParland appeared in one game with the Stars during his first AHL call-up of the season. Prior to his departure, McParland had scored in back-to-back games and compiled five goals and nine points in his last eleven outings to lead the Steelheads with 25 goals on the season. McParland enters Friday night's game one point shy of 100 for his professional career.

About the Mavericks...

The Mavericks find themselves in a fierce battle for a playoff spot in the Central Division, currently occupying the fourth and final berth thanks to five wins in their last six games. That included two wins over the Fort Wayne Komets, snapping a 12-0-1 stretch for the Komets, and another victory in Colorado. Leading scorer and former Rapid City Rush forward Mark Cooper enters with a three-game points streak, but Shawn Pauly was the go-to scorer in Colorado with his second hat trick of the season. Former Steelhead Corey Durocher has goals in three straight games and has collected four goals and nine points in nine games for the Mavericks.
