Walleye Blank Mallards

TOLEDO, Ohio - Mike Borkowski and Austen Brassard scored two goals apiece and Pat Nagle made 17 saves as the host Toledo Walleye (41-14-5) blanked the Quad City Mallards (20-36-4) 8-0 Friday night.

Borkowski lit the fuse on Toledo's eight-goal explosion by giving the Walleye a 1-0 lead from close range on a two man advantage at 9:55 of the first period. Zach Nastasiuk scored the second Toledo goal from the doorstep at 17:16 of the first.

The Walleye took complete control with three second period goals, the first two of which came just 30 seconds apart from Borkowski and Brassart. Borkowski backhanded the puck in from the side of the net at 3:06 of the second; Brassart buried a rebound at 3:36. Brassart struck again from the slot at 9:51.

The Walleye piled on three more goals in the third period. Colin Jacobs stuffed a rebound home at 2:32 of the third, Kyle Bonis pounced on a loose puck in the slot at 4:21 and Shane Berschbach swooped into the Mallard slot to score the final goal of the night at 15:57.

The Mallards before Friday night's game signed Kent Nusbaum as an emergency backup goaltender.

The Mallards and Walleye meet again tomorrow night in Toledo. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night, March 14 at 6:35 p.m. against the Walleye. Fans can enjoy $1 10-ounce beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during all Wednesday home games.
