Cory Ward and Matt Leitner return to Manchester

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rich Seeley, announced today that Cory Ward has been returned from loan by the Ontario Reign (AHL) and Matt Leitner has been returned from loan by the Utica Comets (AHL).

The Monarchs are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings.

Ward, 24, returns to the Monarchs after playing in 18 games for the Reign this season, posting one goal and recording two penalty minutes. Starting the season in Manchester, Ward skated in 14 games for the Monarchs, where he tallied five goals and seven assists for 12 points, before heading to Ontario on Nov. 15.

The 5-foot-11, 201-pound native of Las Vegas, Nev., played collegiately at Bemidji State University, where he skated in 151 career games over a four-year career, and scored 80 points on 45 goals and 35 assists. During the 2016-17 season, Ward notched 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points, playing for the Monarchs.

Leitner, 27, returns to Manchester after being loaned to the Utica Comets on Mar. 7. Leitner did not record any playing time while in Utica. In 42 games this season for Manchester, he has racked up nine goals and 26 assists for 35 points, while recording nine penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound native of Los Alamitos, Calif., played in 149 career games for Minnesota State University from 2010 to 2015, where he scored 49 goals and added 113 assists for 162 points. In 51 games for the Monarchs during the 2016-17 season, he posted 14 goals and 39 assists for 53 points. Leitner also played in 17 games for the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) during the 2016-17 season, where he recorded five assists.

Ward, Leitner and the Monarchs are back in action Friday, Feb. 9 (7 p.m.), at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, N.Y., to take on the Adirondack Thunder.
