Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Chris Driedger made 25 saves but the Brampton Beast dropped a narrow 2-1 decision in a shootout to the Toledo Walleye.
The Brampton Beast were back at the Powerade Centre for a Sunday afternoon tilt against the Toledo Walleye.
Brampton would control the play for much of the first and were rewarded with the games first goal courtesy of Jeff King.
Stefan Fournier found King streaking in all alone, and with time and space, King made no mistake as the deked and slid a backhand past Walleye starter Angus Redmond at 5:43.
The Walleye would answer near the end of the first period off a wicked wrister from Mike Borkowski that eluded Beast netminder Chris Driedger. That tied that game one apiece at 18:00.
Shots at the end of the first were 15-4 for Brampton.
The second period came and went without a goal from either side. Brampton had a bevy of chances but Redmond remained firm in the Toledo net to keep it a 1-1 score.
The shots on goal at the end of two favoured the Beast by a count of 29-12.
The third period again saw both teams trade chances. Neither was able to find twine, so the game went into overtime.
With under five seconds left in the extra frame, Beast forward Chris Leveille had a glorious chance on a breakaway to end the game. Redmond stayed with him and deflected the shot up and out of trouble.
The game was decided in a shootout, where Redmond stopped King, Leveille and Vincent Dunn to secure a 2-1 win for the Walleye.
Chris Driedger made 25 saves and was tagged with the loss. His record now stands at 4-2 this season with Brampton.
Notes: Molson Three Stars 3) King (BRA) 2) Driedger (BRA) 1) Redmond (TOL) Both teams went a scoreless zero-for-three on the man advantage. Brampton next plays at home Thursday at 11 AM and will be taking on the Reading Royals.
