March 9, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release
WHO: Adirondack Thunder (33-20-3-3) @ Manchester Monarchs (34-20-3-2)
WHAT: ECHL REGULAR SEASON GAME #797
WHEN: Friday, March 9, 2018 @ 7:00 PM
WHERE: Cool Insuring Arena - Glens Falls, NY
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The Adirondack Thunder are back at home this evening as they host the Manchester Monarchs, the third straight game in which Adirondack has played Manchester. The Thunder swept the Monarchs in a pair of meetings last weekend, capped off with a 3-1 victory on Saturday evening at SNHU Arena.
FIGHT FOR FIRST: Tonight's game carries significant standings' ramifications in the North Division. Adirondack enters tonight's action trailing Manchester by just one point for the top spot in the division with the two teams even at 59 games played each. Including tonight's game, Adirondack and Manchester will square off four more times this season, with each team playing twice at home.
PLEASE HAVE MERCI: Adirondack forward Pierre-Luc Mercier led the team offensively on Saturday as he scored two goals in the 3-1 victory. The two-goal output was Mercier's second multi-goal game of the season after he previously accomplished the feat on January 7 in Brampton. The first-year player has now compiled 39 points (16-23-39) this season, sixth most on the Thunder roster.
MAN OH MANTHA: Thunder goaltender Olivier Mantha made his professional debut on Saturday in Manchester and turned aside 30 of the 31 shots he faced to earn the victory. Mantha, who signed an AHL contract with the Syracuse Crunch last week, began his professional career after four seasons at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Mantha left the Seawolves as the program's all-time leader in both saves and games played.
HAMMERIN' HARRISON: Adirondack forward Tim Harrison collected an assist on Mercier's game-opening goal on Saturday as he extended his point streak to three games. The 6-3 winger also had a fight in the win over the Monarchs and leads the Thunder this season with 86 penalty minutes. Overall, Harrison has amassed 15 points (7-8-15) from 56 games played during his rookie season.
MAKING MOVES: The Thunder were active at yesterday's trade deadline as they added forward Kenton Miller in a trade with Rapid City, as well as defenseman Adam Larkin from Yale University. Miller has amassed 21 goals and 41 points with the Rush this season and led the team in goals at the time of the trade. Larkin appeared in 126 career games with the Bulldogs and appeared in the NCAA Tournament in both 2015 and 2016.
MAKE IT A POINT: Entering tonight's action, the Thunder are riding a four-game winning streak and a seven-game point streak overall, dating back to February 19. Adirondack has posted a 5-0-1-1 record over the seven-game stretch and the ten points earned is the most over any seven games this season. The Thunder have also collected a point in six straight road games, dating back to February 10.
