Toledo Walleye News Release
- The Toledo Storm finished the week at 0-4-0. The Storm has compiled an overall record of 12-16-3. Toledo is eighth in the Northern Division.
- Toledo lost two games at Wheeling this week. On Wednesday, Toledo lost 9-3 and on Friday, Wheeling defeated the Storm 5-0. Toledo returned home on Saturday and lost a 3-1 decision to the Peoria Rivermen. On Sunday, the Rivermen defeated Toledo 4-2 in Peoria.
- Toledo has lost 5 games in a row for the first time this season, and has been outscored 25-7 in those contests.
- Morten Ask added a goal and an assist over the past week. Ask currently leads the Storm with 23 points. Morten also leads Toledo with 15 assists, one ahead of Paul Ballantyne.
- Wes Mason's 2 goals over the past week moved him into a tie for the team lead with 10 goals overall. Nick Parillo and Alexander Jacques have 10 goals as well.
- Toledo added Shayne Tomlinson and Bob McKillop prior to Saturday's game against Peoria. Both players were brought in just for the night as they were released on Sunday.
- On Sunday, goaltender Doug Teskey made his fourteenth straight start, which is a career high. Doug is 4-8-2 during this current streak. During last season Teskey had a stretch in which he started 11 straight games from October 26th to November 22nd of 2002.
- Toledo allowed the first goal in three of the four contests this week. Twenty One times this season the Storm has allowed the first goal of a game. Toledo is 6-13-2 in those contests.
- Toledo's power play is 17 for 152 (11.2%) on the season, and is ranked 28th in the ECHL.
- The Storm's penalty kill went 17 for 22 over the last week. Toledo's penalty kill is now ranked 15th in the ECHL, killing off 135 of the 162 times shorthanded (83.3%).
- Toledo is 6-9-2 on the road this year.
- Toledo is 6-7-1 at home this season.
- Heading South! Toledo will travel south for the first time this season for its next four games. On Friday, Toledo will stop in Columbia before heading to Roanoke on Saturday and Florence on Sunday. Friday's game against the Inferno will be the first game played outside of the Northern Division for the Storm. Toledo is the last team in the ECHL to venture outside of it's own division.
- The Coaches Show, featuring Nick Vitucci, will be this Tuesday night at 8pm at the Downtown Frickers. The show can be heard on 97.3 the Fox.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION:
Wes Mason (2 goals - 1 assist = 3 points)
Wes went into Wednesday night's game at Wheeling with only 2 goals in the month of December. Mason scored in the first period of that game and added his second of the week Saturday night against Peoria. Wes picked up an assist on Kyle Kos's second period goal on Sunday.
GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION:
Doug Teskey (0-4-0, 4.98 gaa, 0.878 save%)
Doug has started fourteen straight games for Toledo including all four this past week. Teskey had 4 periods this week where he stopped 15 or more shots. Doug had 15 saves in the first period on December 31st, 18 in the first period on January 2nd, 17 saves during the second period on January 3rd, and 17 more in the first period on Sunday January 4th.
