January 5, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV â With the Wheeling Nailers 5-2 win in Dayton on Sunday, the Nailers claimed the point lead in the ECHL. The Nailers had a perfect week last week going 4-0-0 and improving their unbeaten streak to eight games, 7-0-1.
The Nailers enter the week with a record of 23-9-2 for 48 points, five points ahead of the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies and the Peoria Rivermen in the Northern Division. The Nailers also have a four point lead over the Columbia Inferno of the Southern Division for the overall lead in the Eastern Conference.
The Gwinnett Gladiators and the Louisiana IceGators of the Central Division are the closest teams to the Nailers in the ECHL's overall standings. Gwinnett leads the Central Division with 47 points, one point behind Wheeling, and Louisiana has 46 points. The Nailers also lead the league with a .706 winning percentage.
Though the Nailers are currently on top in the ECHL in points, some of the teams chasing them have played fewer games than the Nailers 34 games played. Atlantic City has played 31 games; Peoria and Louisiana have both played 33 games; Columbia and Gwinnett are even with Wheeling at 34 games played.
The Nailers play Friday and Sunday at home against the Reading Royals this week. Friday's game at WesBanco Arena is at 7:30p.m., Sunday's game is at 2:00p.m. On Saturday the Nailers travel to Cincinnati for a 7:30p.m. game.
