his fourth career shutout. Mike Hartman, Blaz Emersic and Dusty Jamison all scored in the second period for Charlotte, which improved to 9-3-1 in December. Daniel Berthiaume registered 28 saves for Greensboro, which was shut out for only the second time this season.

GENERALS 5, PRIDE 3

GREENSBORO—The remedy for any on-again, off-again scoring difficulties is to score in mass and deliver the much needed knockout punch. The Greensboro Generals did exactly that, when in the third period against the Florence Pride, knotched four goals en route to a 5-3 victory.

In a scoreless first period, Greensboro led the way by getting 10 shots on goal, led by three players who got at least two shots on goal. As for Florence, the Pride got off seven shots on goal, with no player registering more than one shot on goal. The opening period was also penalty free, as neither team was penalized with a player in the box.

As the netminder battle between the Generals Daniel Berthiaume and Florence's Don Lombard continued into the second, the scoreless tie was finally broken at the 8:25 mark. The Generals (19-12-1) Dave LoPresti scored his first goal of the season, when on a rebound from a Mark Turner shot, the diving Turner landed on top of Lombard, allowing LoPresti to shoot over the goaltender's back. Florence would then retaliate for two consecutive goals, the first coming 33 seconds later when Nicolas Corbeil knotted the game at 1-1, sending the puck past Berthiaume. The final goal of the period came at the 9:17 mark, when the Pride (10-15-5) struck again, as Wes Goldie scored on a breakaway goal to give Florence a 2-1 advantage heading into the third.

The Pride would open the third period the same way that they closed the second, when Corbeil scored his second goal to push the lead to 3-1 just 5:14 into the period. It was then that the Generals kicked their offense into high gear, as Matt Turek scored his 12th goal of the season to cut into the lead, at the 6:18 mark. On a feed from Geno Parrish and Eric Fortier, Turek scored from the right circle to cut the deficit to 3-2. Greensboro tied the game when Matt Elich sent home his 11th goal of the season, on an assist from newcomer Pete Gardiner and Mike Bayrack.

Just under one minute later Bayrack would net an unassisted goal, when on a breakaway "Racker" gave the Generals a lead that they would not relinquish. With the Florence goalie pulled to give the Pride an extra attacker, Greensboro won a face-off by Mark Turner, to set up the final goal, as Turner would feed Eric Fortier for his team-leading 16th goal of the campaign.

The victory moves goaltender Daniel Berthiaume to 17-9-1 on the season, while Greensboro now goes to 19-12-1 in 2003-04.

GRRROWL 7, GENERALS 5

GREENVILLE, SC—The Greensboro Generals are suffering from the road blues as of late, dropping their second consecutive game away from the Greensboro Coliseum, while at the same time falling short of the Greenville Grrrowl by the score of 7-5.

After capturing the first two games against the Grrrowl , Greensboro has fallen short twice within the last week. Matt Demarski jump started the offense when he netted his first goal of the season, to give Greenville a 1-0 lead. Matt Chandler answered to tie the game at 1-1, when he scored his third goal of the season for Greensboro.

Second period scoring began when the Generals (19-13-1) Mike Bayrack converted a power-play at the 1:18 mark. The Grrrowl's newest acquisition, Bob Cunningham, would then net a goal for his newest team and help pace Greenville's three-goal second period. Troy Ilijow would send the puck past the Generals netminder Jamie Hodson, followed by a third goal just over 1:30 later.

In the third, Cunningham would again score the opening goal, as recorded his second hat trick of the season and first with his new club, pushing the lead to 5-2 in favor of Greenville. Just as the night prior, the offensive unit for Greensboro would find its niche, as Mike Bayrack would score his third goal in two games, followed by Matt Elich's 11th goal of the season to cut the deficit to 5-4. Following a Cunningham hat trick goal, the Generals Eric Wendell, on a feed from Matt Turek and Tom Reimann, would again make the game a one-goal affair. With Greensboro pulling netminder Jamie Hodson to give themselves an extra attacker, were unable to keep the puck in the offensive zone, and relinquished the final goal of the game with 14 seconds remaining.

EXPRESS 4, GENERALS 3

ROANOKE—The Greensboro Generals have fallen moved to even keel on the road this season, following a 4-3 loss to the Roanoke Express. With consecutive road losses to divisional opponents Greenville and Roanoke, the Generals have moved to fourth in the Southern division.

Opening the game with three consecutive goals over a 10-minute span, the Express forced Greensboro to play with a sense of urgency. Captain Mark Turner put a tourniquet on the Generals bleeding, as he netted his 12th goal of the campaign, scoring on an assist from Eric Fortier and Tom Reimann. Unable to maintain the momentum, Greensboro allowed a fourth goal, as Roanoke took a 4-1 lead heading into the third period.

Reimann would then score a goal of his own, when at the 10:15 mark of the third, he trimmed the Express lead in half. Greensboro's Pete Gardiner would then net his first goal of the season, after rejoining the Generals on a power-play. In the closing minute, the Generals managed several quality shots in the offensive zone, however a shot that hit the crossbar proved to be the closest Greensboro would come to scoring the tying goal.

"You can't get down on the road and expect to earn victory. In this league, you have to dominate the whole game, not just one period. It is important when you make a valiant effort, to get at least one point as a tie," Head Coach/General Manager Rick Adduono said.
