(Charlotte, NC - Monday, January 5) - The Checkers (17-12-4 for 38 points) get back to action Wednesday with another busy seven days with four games on the schedule this week. After taking four of five games last week, the Checkers find themselves only six points out of first place in the ECHL's Southern Division of the Eastern Division.

RACE NIGHT 2004 AT THE CHECKERS GAME SATURDAY

COME SEE SOME OF WINSTON CUP'S FINEST

Charlotte has two home games this week, highlighted by Race Night 2004 this Saturday night when the Checkers will host the Augusta Lynx at 7:30 p.m. Fans can come and meet and receive autographs from Casey Mears with the #41 car as well as Shawna Robinson, Jay Godley, Shaun Mangum and Jeff Fultz. The Checkers will also be wearing special Race Jerseys during the game, with numbers that correspond with some of the most popular Winston Cup drivers. A Checkers player will be wearing #2 for Rusty Wallace, #21 for Ricky Rudd, #7 for Jimmy Spencer as well as many other numbers of popular NASCAR drivers. Fans will have an opportunity to bid on the special Race Jerseys directly following Saturday's game. The Checkers player who wore the jersey AND the Winston Cup driver who's car number it represents will be signing the jersey for the fan with the winning bid. Proceeds from this special jersey auction will be going to Checkmate charities and the Racing Wives Auxiliary. There will be ! many other fun activities planned for this night including show cars, on ice entertainment and more!

WEDNESDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers will host the Florida Everblades at Cricket Arena for the first time this season in the four-game season series. Charlotte has already played both road games in the season series, falling 6-2 on November 14 and earning a point the following night while losing in shootout 3-2 at Teco Arena in Fort Myers. The Everblades enter this week in second place in the Southern Division with a record of 18-11-5 for 41 points, just three points ahead of the Checkers. Florida is coached by Gerry Fleming and is affiliated with the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes and the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters.

THURSDAY'S PREVIEW: Charlotte will play the Generals for the first time in Greensboro this season in the eight-game season series. In two games played between the teams in Charlotte so far, the Checkers are 1-1-0. Greensboro beat the Checkers 4-3 at Cricket Arena on November 7, while Charlotte came back with a 3-0 shutout win last Tuesday. The Generals enter the week on a two-game skid and are 4-6-0 in their last 10 games.

SATURDAY'S & SUNDAY'S PREVIEW: Charlotte will close out another busy four-game week with back-to-back games with the Augusta Lynx. The Checkers will host the first game Saturday night on "Race Saturday" while the Lynx will host Charlotte on Sunday afternoon in Georgia. The Checkers have garnered three points in the first two games in the six-game season series, losing in a shootout 4-3 on Dec 27 at Cricket Arena while winning 3-1 in Augusta this past Saturday night. The Lynx are coached this season by Stan Drulia, a former player for Checkers Coach Don MacAdam in the American Hockey League, and a former teammate of Checkers Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach Derek Wilkinson. The Lynx are affiliated with the NHL's Florida Panthers and the AHL's San Antonio Rampage.
