San Diego Gulls News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Martin and Stephane St. Amour are joining other Ex-NHL and minor league players in an exhibition game against the Japanese National Team, which takes place Monday night at the Long Beach Arena.

Martin St Amour, 33, is in his third season as the associate coach of the San Diego Gulls. Martin began his career behind the bench midway through the 2000-01 season, when he served as San Diego's assistant coach. His playing career lasted 14 years, including eight with the Gulls. The native of Montreal finished his career as the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 394 points.

Martin also ranks first all-time in franchise goals (180) and assists (214), third in games played (292), third in plus-minus (+161) and third in penalty minutes (927). He played on three Taylor Cup Championship teams with San Diego and, before retiring, was the last original WCHL Gull. In February 2001, the team honored Martin by retiring his jersey No. 18. He was only the second player in San Diego professional hockey history to have his jersey retired.

Stephane St. Amour played with the Gulls from 1995-96 to 1999-00 and then briefly this season. He ranks seventh all-time in franchise history with 259 points and fourth with 135 goals. He was also a member of three San Diego Taylor Cup Championship teams.

1996-97, Martin and Stephane established themselves as the only brothers in professional hockey history – at any level – to finish with at least 50 goals and 100 points each in the same season.

The Japanese National Team will be competing to participate in the 2006 Winter Olympics and are playing a series of games throughout North America to help gain some exposure.

The game starts at 7 p.m. Monday night. For ticket information, contact the Long Beach Ice Dogs at (562) ICE-DOGS or www.icedogs.com.
