The Johnstown Chiefs (17-14-3; 37 PTS; 5th Northern div.) remained in fifth place in the Northern division after going 1-4-0 last week. The Chiefs only win came at home, in a shootout over Dayton on New Year's Eve. They had road losses in Reading (2), Trenton and Atlantic City. This week the Chiefs will play three games, Wednesday at Trenton and home games Friday and Saturday versus Cincinnati and Reading respectively. The Chiefs are currently in fifth place in the Northern division leading sixth place Cincinnati by three points and trailing fourth place Reading by four points.

GAME #30 (12/30/03) TRENTON 6 - Johnstown 1 Currie 31 Saves

The Johnstown Chiefs began their busy five game week on a losing note Tuesday night, as they fell to the Trenton Titans 6-1, at the Sovereign Bank Arena. This was the first game of a five game in six night stretch for the Chiefs. Mathieu Brunelle registered a hat trick for Trenton as the Titans jumped out to a 6-0 lead until Johnstown's Willie Levesque scored 11:26 into the third period. The Titans also got goals from Devin Rusk, Scott Bertoli and Matt Zultek. Chiefs goaltender David Currie suffered the loss making 30 saves. Titans goaltender Alex Westlund stopped 36 of 37 Johnstown shots.

GAME #31 (12/31/03) JOHNSTOWN 3 - Dayton 2 (SO) Cavanagh Goal, Assist

The Johnstown Chiefs closed 2003 on a winning note, as they defeated the visiting Dayton Bombers 3-2 in a shootout in front of a sellout crowd of 4,015 Wednesday night, at the War Memorial. This was the Chiefs third sellout crowd of the season. The Chiefs got goals from Jason Notermann and Chad Cavanagh. Oliver Proulx and Janne Jokila scored the Dayton goals. Steve Hildenbrand scored the Chiefs game winning goal in the sixth round of the shootout. Chiefs goaltender Cory Campbell picked up his 7th win of the season making 18 saves. Dayton goaltender Bujar Amidovski made 39 saves in the contest.

GAME #32 (1/2/04) READING 2 - Johnstown 1 Campbell 34 Saves

The Johnstown Chiefs came up short in their first game in 2004, as they fell on the road 2-1, to the Reading Royals, Friday night at the Sovereign Center. Reading got on the board first when Lars Petterson scored his second of the season 6:48 into the first period. After a scoreless second period, the Royals made it 2-0 on a Scooter Smith power play goal at 9:17 of the third period. Brent Kelly would close the gap to 2-1 when he answered with his 12th goal of the season just 0:17 later. Chiefs goaltender Cory Campbell made 34 saves in the defeat while Royals goaltender Terry Deinke made 33 saves.

GAME #33 (1/3/04) READING 4 - Johnstown 1 Hildenbrand Goal

Saturday night, the Chiefs dropped their second in a row at the hands of the Reading Royals by a score of 4-1. Steve Hildenbrand scored the only Johnstown goal. Goaltender Cory Campbell made 23 saves. Reading got goals from Mat Snesrud, Graig Mishler, Peter Hay and Kent Davyduke.

GAME #34 (1/4/04) ATLANTIC CITY 5 - Johnstown 1 Paul Goal

The Johnstown Chiefs lost their third straight game Sunday afternoon, as they fell 5-1 to the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies at Boardwalk Hall. The Chiefs are now 2-7-1 in their last ten games. Luke Curtin had two goals for the Boardwalk Bullies, while Jim Henkel, Stefan Rivard and Matt Hubbauer also tallied. Richard Paul scored the lone goal for the Chiefs in the first period. Chiefs goaltender Cory Campbell suffered the loss making 19 saves. David Currie relieved Campbell in the third period stopping five of six Atlantic City shots. Scott Stirling made 35 saves for the Boardwalk Bullies.

Wednesday night, the Chiefs and the Trenton Titans (15-12-2, 32 PTS.; 7th Northern div.) meet for the third time this season. The Chiefs are 1-1-0 against the Titans this season and 7-14-2 all-time. The Titans are currently on a four game winning streak. Trenton is in seventh place in the Northern division. The Titans have yet to play a game in Johnstown this season.

Friday night the Chiefs host the Cincinnati Cyclones (16-15-2, 34 PTS; 6th Northern div.) for the fourth time this season. The Chiefs are 1-1-1 against the Cyclones this season. The Cyclones are 5-4-1 in their last ten games and trail the Chiefs by three points for fifth place in the Northern div.

The Chiefs will take on the Reading Royals (18-10-5, 41 PTS; 4th Northern div.) Saturday night for the fourth time this season. The Chiefs are 1-2-0 against the Royals this season. The Royals are 5-3-2 in their last ten games and hold the ECHL's best home record (11-1-2).

CHIEFS NOTES:

- Jeff Sullivan became the Chiefs all-time PIM leader Wednesday night, passing Rick Boyd, when he recorded a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. Sullivan now has 981 PIM with Johnstown (254 games).

- The Chiefs have not won in regulation since 12/28 @ Dayton (5 games).

- Steve Hildenbrand, Chad Cavanagh, Shawn Mather and Brent Kelly led the team in scoring in the month of December with eight points.

- The Chiefs are 14-0-1 when leading after two periods.
