South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays released their schedule for the upcoming season today. They will play 72 games again this year with their season opener on October 20 at Gwinnett. For the second year in a row, the Stingrays home opener is against the Columbia Inferno and will take place on October 21.

"Opening the season against the Gladiators, gives us extra motivation since they knocked us out of the playoff race last year," commented Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "Then to play in-state rival Columbia at home is sure to be the start of an exciting season," Fitzsimmons added.

The schedule features eight Friday games, 12 Saturday games, and nine Sunday games for a total of 29 weekend games, up three from last year. The season will also feature two three-night home-stands, October 27-29 and again February 16-18.

The 2006-2007 schedule is highlighted by the addition of a South Conference rival, the Texas Wildcatters. The Wildcatters sat out last season due to Hurricane Rita, but are back in action again. The Stingrays play the Wildcatters a total of seven times this season including three in a row at Texas in late January and the season-ender at home on April 7.

New this season is the addition of Wednesday night games. The Stingrays play November 22 against Texas and December 20 against Augusta.

The ECHL welcomes the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Texas Wildcatters back to the ice in 2006-07 and will play 900 games, beginning Oct. 20 and ending Apr. 7, with 25 teams in 16 states and British Columbia.

The division and conference alignments and the format for the 2007 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be announced following the Preseason Board of Governors Meeting in September.

The ECHL takes its annual midseason break in January for the Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 17 and Rbk Hockey Skills Competition on Jan. 16 hosted by the Steelheads at Qwest Arena.

This season marks the 14th season of hockey in the Low Country. The Stingrays have reached the postseason every season thus far, an ECHL league record for appearances and consecutive appearances.

A variety of season ticket packages are now on sale starting at under $60 and can be purchased by calling 843-744-2248 or by logging onto www.stingrayshockey.com. Group tickets can also be purchased in advance by contacting the Stingrays office.
