Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder and the ECHL announced the 2006-07 regular season schedule today, with the Thunder opening its second season on the road Friday, October 20 against the Bakersfield Condors, and facing the Long Beach Ice Dogs in the home opener at Stockton Arena on Saturday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
Thunder home games will begin at 7:00 p.m. PT on Monday through Thursday, 7:30 p.m. PT on Friday and Saturday, and 4:00 p.m. PT on Sunday, with the Thunder's November 23 Thanksgiving Day game time against the Idaho Steelheads to be determined. The 72-game schedule (36 home, 36 away) ends with a two-game, regular season finale road series against the Las Vegas Wranglers on April 6 and 7. A total of 21 home games, up two from the 2005-06 season, will be played on a Friday or Saturday while the home schedule features 29 weekend dates (11 Fridays, 10 Saturdays and 8 Sundays).
2006-07 STOCKTON THUNDER SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN
For the second consecutive season, the Thunder will play in the ECHL's Pacific Division (National Conference), participating in a schedule that emphasizes intra-conference rivalries. Stockton will play 67 games against 2005-06 National Conference opponents, deviating from its 2005-06 conference alignment for five games, which includes a three-game road series against the newly-reinstated Texas Wildcatters (Feb. 23-25), and a two-game home series against the Cincinnati Cyclones (Mar. 2-3).
The Thunder faces its 2005-06 Pacific Division opponents 24 times in 2006-07, including eight games against the Fresno Falcons, its nearest geographical rival. The Thunder and Falcons will first meet December 22 in Fresno, followed by the first Stockton Arena tilt set for December 27. Stockton will play six games against the defending Kelly Cup Champion Alaska Aces, with the first season-series matchup at Stockton Arena on Friday, November 24 and swiftly wrapping-up with a five-game series lasting January 20-27, beginning with two games at Stockton Arena (Jan. 20-21) and ending with three in Anchorage (Jan. 24-27). The Thunder will face the Idaho Steelheads 10 times in 2006-07, the most amount of games against any opponent for the regular season.
The Thunder will play nine consecutive home games from November 19 to December 19 at Stockton Arena, marking the longest home stand for the 2006-07 season. The Thunder embarks on a six-game road trip ranging from November 7-17 (at Phoenix, Idaho, and Victoria), marking the longest stretch the Thunder will play away from Stockton Arena.
