Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA, SC (July 17, 2006) - The Columbia Inferno announce today their schedule for the 2006-07 season. The Inferno will open their sixth season with the first three games on the road, and then on Friday, October 27, Columbia hits the ice against divisional rival the Augusta Lynx at 7:05pm.
"We have moved our start times from 7:30pm to 7:05pm for the upcoming season," said General Manager Kevin Kavanagh. "We believe the 7:05pm start time will be better for families and will be able to get home at a reasonable time. We are looking forward to providing the Midlands area with quality hockey as we play 18 of our 36 homes games on Friday nights."
Columbia will be traveling on five separate overnight road trips starting with three games in five nights in Florida during the month of November. After the New Year holiday, they will travel to Beaumont, Texas to face the Wildcatters for three consecutive games. Texas returns to the ice after being forced to suspend operations for 2005-06 as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The Inferno will then head north in mid-February to play two games in Toledo and one game against the Dayton Bombers. The following week it is off to Pensacola for back-to-back games against the Ice Pilots. Columbia heads back to Pensacola and Florida for two games each during the month of March.
Fans will have the opportunity to see a new team this year as the Reading Royals will visit the Carolina Coliseum for the first time in Inferno history on Friday, December 22.
The following is a breakdown of the games and opponents for the upcoming season:
Augusta Lynx 9 (5 home, 4 away) Pensacola Ice Pilots 10 (5 home, 5 away)
Charlotte Checkers 9 (4 home, 5 away) Reading Royals 1 (1 home)
Cincinnati Cyclones 1 (1 home) South Carolina Stingrays 11 (5 home, 6 away)
Dayton Bombers 2 (1 home, 1 away) Texas Wildcatters 7 (4 home, 3 away)
Florida Everblades 9 (4 home, 5 away) Toledo Storm 2 (2 away)
Gwinnett Gladiators 10 (5 home, 5 away) Trenton Titans 1 (1 home)
The division and conference alignments and the format for the 2007 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be announced following the Preseason Board of Governors Meeting in September. The ECHL takes its annual midseason break in January for the Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 17 and Rbk Hockey Skills Competition on Jan. 16 hosted by the Steelheads at Qwest Arena.
Season and partial ticket packages are still available. Call the Inferno front office at 803.256.PUCK (7825) for tickets. For a complete schedule of games log onto www.columbiainferno.com. Make sure to join the Inferno this season as this year's action will be so hot we had to put it on ice.
