Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, P.A. - The ECHL announced on Monday the 2006-2007 playing schedule. The Johnstown Chiefs will open their nineteenth ECHL season at home on Saturday, October 21st when they host the Pensacola Ice Pilots.

"We are very excited to have this schedule. It is extremely fan friendly. We have three less weekday games than we did last season. It will enable our staff to sell groups even more effectively," said Chiefs Vice President of Business Operations Kevin McGeehan. "We also have an additional Saturday night game and five more Sunday games which were real popular with groups last year."

Once again the schedule will be heavily focused on divisional play, as sixty-five of seventy-two regular season games are played against North division teams including the return of the Cincinnati Cyclones. Other non division teams playing at the War Memorial Arena this season will be Charlotte (November 10), Bakersfield (December 10) and Augusta (January 27).

The Chiefs will travel to the South division in early January when they take on Gwinnett (January 5), Augusta (January 6) and South Carolina (January 7).

The Chiefs will play a rare Monday afternoon home game in January when they host the Wheeling Nailers on Martin Luther King Day (January 15). Game time will be 1 p.m.

"Having an afternoon weekday game is something we have been looking at for sometime. With schools off on Martin Luthur King Jr. Day and many businesses closed we thought this may be a good opportunity to showcase Chiefs hockey to people that may not normally attend a game," McGeehan added.

Start times will remain the same as last season with the exceptions being New Year's Eve (6 p.m.) and the MLK day game (1:00 p.m.). Wednesday and Friday games will be at 7:30 p.m., Saturday's at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon games at 3:00 p.m.
