Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team's 2006-07 Regular Season Schedule, which kicks off in Trenton, New Jersey, on Friday, October 20, and concludes with the seventy-second regular season game on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Sovereign Center in Reading against the Johnstown Chiefs. Thirty-one of the thirty-six regular season home games for Reading this year will be played on weekend or holiday dates-twelve on Friday nights, ten on Saturday nights, eight on Sunday afternoons, and one on New Year's Day. Sixty-Four of the Royals' seventy-two regular season games will be played against North Division foes, including twelve games against the team's closest geographic rival, the Trenton Titans, and ten against the newest addition to the North Division, the Cincinnati Cyclones.
After kicking things off in Trenton on October 20, the Royals return to the Sovereign Center for the team's home opener on Saturday, October 21, at 7:05 pm against the Titans. The next day, Reading plays the team's first Sunday afternoon (4:35 pm) home game of the season when the Pensacola Ice Pilots make their first trip in team history to the Sovereign Center. This is one of eight games that the Royals will play against teams from the South Division of the American Conference, including the first games in team history against the Gwinnett Gladiators and the Columbia Inferno. Reading faces Gwinnett on Wednesday, November 29-the Royals' first Wednesday home game (out of a total of five) for the season, which will kick off at the Sovereign Center's newly established weekday night game time of 6:35 pm. The Royals also play the Charlotte Checkers three times this year-twice at home and once in Charlotte's Bobcat Arena, which will mark the first time in team history that Reading has played in that building. Reading will also visit North Charleston, South Carolina, to take on the South Carolina Stingrays in back-to-back games on March 9 and 10 of 2007.
Although the Royals intra-Division schedule is balanced with 32 home games and 32 away games, the total number of games played against each divisional foe varies. As noted, Reading plays twelve games against the Trenton Titans (six home and six away), while the Royals play eleven (six home and five away) against the Johnstown Chiefs and the Wheeling Nailers. In contrast, the Royals play only four home games against the Toledo Storm, while visiting the Toledo Sports Arena six times over the course of the regular season. The Royals also play at total of ten games (five home and five away) against the Dayton Bombers and the Cincinnati Cyclones, who return to the ECHL after a two season hiatus.
The Royals play one Monday game this season-on New Year's Day at the Sovereign Center against the Dayton Bombers at 4:35 pm. That game is expected to be replete with celebratory activities in keeping with the festive atmosphere of ringing in the New Year. Reading also plays one Tuesday game this season-in Dayton against the Bombers on March 13. That game is in the middle of a six game road trip for the Royals (March 4 through March 16), which marks the longest span of consecutive road games for Reading this year. The longest home stand for the Royals this season will run from February 18 through March 3, when Reading will play six consecutive games at the Sovereign Center.
