Ftorek and Team USA capture gold

Sam Ftorek and the USA Hockey InLine National Team have claimed the gold medal at the 2006 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine Hockey World Championship in Budapest, Hungary with a 6-0 win over Sweden on Sunday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Team USA scored three times in the second from Ernie Hartlieb, Chris Peterson, and Chris Popescu to take a lead that was never in question. Peterson would score his second of the game around a pair of goals from Aaron Moss to ice the win for the US squad.

The US beat Austria 10-0 and Germany 3-2 en route to the championship game, finishing the tournament with a perfect 6-0-0 record.

Ftorek finished the tournament with four goals and six points in six games to go with a +7 rating.

In the 11-year history of the event, the United States has earned gold medals in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2004 and 2006; silver medals in 1998 and 2001; and bronze medals at the 2000, 2003 and 2005 tournaments.
