Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The 2006 Kelly Cup champion Alaska Aces will open defense of their title Friday, October 20, against the Victoria Salmon Kings at Sullivan Arena.
28 of Alaska's 36 home games will be played on the weekend, with six slated for Wednesday and one each on Tuesday and Thursday. The opener against Victoria marks the first of four straight home tilts to open the season, as Bakersfield rolls into town the weekend of October 27-28. A rematch of the 2006 West Division Finals has been set for November 16, 18, and 19, as Las Vegas makes its return to Anchorage for the first time since being eliminated in triple overtime May 2 in round two of Alaska's Kelly Cup run.
Fresno pays a visit to Anchorage December 6, 8, and 9; those three games will be the first the Falcons and Aces play against one another since Alaska prevailed in double overtime in Game 7 of the National Conference Finals May 22. Finally, a rematch of the 2006 Kelly Cup Finals awaits in late January, when the Aces travel to Duluth, Georgia, for a pair of games against Gwinnett January 30 and February 3. Alaska defeated the Gladiators in five games to claim the ECHL championship June 1.
Traditional rival Idaho makes a pre-Christmas appearance in Anchorage for a three-game set December 20, 22 and 23. The Aces will have a busy January at home with three separate three-game series scheduled; January 3-6 vs. Utah, January 12-14 vs. Victoria, and Jan. 24-27 vs. Stockton. Fresno (Feb. 6-7) and Phoenix (Feb. 9-11) invade Sullivan Arena in February, while Bakersfield (March 2-4) and Long Beach (March 9-11) will be Alaska's March opposition.
Utah closes out the 2006-07 regular season schedule with three games at Sullivan April 4, 6, and 7. That series marks the first time in Aces history that Alaska will finish the regular season at home. All games this season at Sullivan Arena will begin at 7:15 p.m., with the exception of Sundays (5:05 p.m.) and the November 18-19 games against Las Vegas (2:05 p.m. and 1:05 p.m., respectively). The Aces will be announcing their plans for pre-season games later this week.
The first round of the 2007 Kelly Cup playoffs begins the week of April 9. The ECHL welcomes the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Texas Wildcatters back to the ice in 2006-07, with the division and conference alignments and the format for the 2007 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be announced following the Preseason Board of Governors Meeting in September. The ECHL takes its annual midseason break in January for the Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 17 and Rbk Hockey Skills Competition on Jan. 16 hosted by the Idaho Steelheads at Qwest Arena in Boise.
