Stingrays Game Preview: Stingrays and Road Warriors Renew In-State Rivalry Tonight

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 22 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, take on the Greenville Road Warriors tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. Tonight is the first of 14 meetings between to the two East Division rivals.

Series Breakdown:

The Stingrays and Road Warriors meet 14 times during the 2014-15 season with the Stingrays hosting the Road Warriors at the North Charleston Coliseum six times. The Road Warriors take on the Stingrays eight times on home ice including four consecutive meetings from December 22 to February 7.

Heated Rivalry:

The Stingrays hold a 29-23-11 all-time record against the Road Warriors and went 9-5-0-2 against them last season. Forward Peter Boyd led the Stingrays against the Road Warriors in 2013-14 with 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in 14 games and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis earned a 6-3-0-1 record with a 2.38 goals-against average and .920 save percentage.

Preseason Action:

The Stingrays and Road Warriors collided in the preseason on Saturday, October 11 at the Carolina Ice Palace in North Charleston with the Stingrays earning a 4-3 victory. Forward Branden Gracel scored two goals and goaltender David LeNeveu made 18 saves.

Rowe Faces Former Team:

Stingrays forward Andrew Rowe faces his former team tonight after spending parts of the last three seasons with the Road Warriors. Last season, Rowe was named to the ECHL All-Second Team posting 66 points (31 goals, 35 assists) in 64 games including eight points (three goals, five assists) in 13 meetings against the Stingrays.
