Indy Fuel News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - In the first and only meeting between the two teams this year, the Indy Fuel defeated the Missouri Mavericks by a 5-1 final score to register the team's first-ever regular season ECHL win on Friday at the Fairgrounds Coliseum. With the win, the Fuel improved to 1-1-1-1 on the season and with four points, climbed into third place in the ECHL's North Division standings.

The Fuel broke the ice at 5:59 of the first period when Indy leading scorer Robert Czarnik wired home a power-play wrister from the left circle, assisted by Nick Jones and Rhett Bly, to make it 1-0 Fuel. Less than three minutes later, Missouri forward David Rutherford leveled the score at one thanks to feeds from Jared Brown and Colten Hayes.

After a scoreless second period, the Fuel offense ignited in the third, as Indy captain Mike Duco throttled the eventual game-winning goal past Missouri goaltender Mike Clemente at 8:17 of the period, followed by three more goals, from Justin Holl, Rhett Bly and Patrick Cullen, respectively, to deliver the Fuel their first win in franchise history.

Indy goaltender Cody Reichard picked up the win in his second start and third appearance for the Fuel this year, as the former Miami University RedHawk stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced while Clemente took the loss, allowing five goals on 28 shots faced.

Next up for the Fuel, it's a Saturday road trip to Southern Indiana to face the Fuel's #HoosierHockey rivals, the Evansville IceMen. Full coverage of Saturday's game begins with the "Jose Cuervo Pregame Show" at 8:00 pm on CBS Sports 1430 AM with Fuel broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.

In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud "AA" affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL.
