October 24, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL) - Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (2-1-1-0) defeated the Colorado Eagles (2-2) 3-2 Friday night at Maverik Center.

"I was proud of the boys effort there, we battled hard and got the win," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "Five-on-five, we created a lot more offensively and that's what I was looking for." The Grizzlies registered a season-high 41 shots on goal in the contest.

Utah took a 1-0 lead 3:12 into the first period as Michael Pelech (3) chased down a bouncing puck and worked in for a breakaway scoring his third goal of the year.

After Colorado tied the game in the first, Vinny Scarsella drew a tripping penalty and then fed Mike Colavecchia for his first pro goal to give the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead on the power-play. Barry Almeida picked up an assist on the play.

Early in the second period, Colorado again tied the game up off of a Utah turnover. The Grizzlies again regained the lead on a power-play goal as Vinny Scarsella buried a shot from the left circle with 4:12 left in the second period. Again Almeida and Colavecchia factored in on the power-play scoring as they drew assists.

Anaheim Ducks rookie goaltending prospect Ryan Faragher stopped 31 of 33 shots to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Utah went 2-6 on the power-play and 5-5 on the penalty-kill.
