ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Playing the third game in three nights caught up with the Idaho Steelheads Sunday night in Anchorage, as the Steelheads dropped a 4-3 decision to the Alaska Aces in Sullivan Arena. Bobby Russell recorded three assists tonight for Idaho, but it was not enough as the Steelheads lost two of three in the weekend series.

The Aces scored the only goal in the first period, as Chris Heisten poked the puck through Idaho netminder Frank Doyle's pads when Doyle lost sight of the puck after making the save on an Alaska shot.

The Aces converted two power play chances to take a 3-0 lead in the second. Scott Gomez scored at 8:01, and Chris Minard tallied his league-leading 29th just 1:22 later. Idaho got its first goal, also on the power play, when Darrell Hay scored at 11:08, beating Aces goalie Lance Mayes.

Alaska stretched its lead to 4-1 when Mike Lee beat Doyle at 15:13. Idaho scored the game's final two goals to make it close, but couldn't get the tying marker. David Cornacchia ripped a blast from between the circles off an Aces turnover to make it 4-2. Billy Tibbetts scored his second goal in three games with Idaho, as the Steelheads pulled Doyle for the extra attacker.

Idaho went 1 for 5 on the power play, while Alaska was 2 for 3. Idaho ends its season series against Alaska with a record of 5-3-2.

The Steelheads return home Friday and Saturday to take on the league-leading Long Beach Ice Dogs.
