Friday, January 28

Wheeling 1 @ Dayton 0

Pascal Morency gave the Nailers a 1-0 lead in the first period and that would be all the offense the Nailers would need. Morency scored his fourth goal of the season, third against Dayton, at 15:29 of the first period from Brendon Hodge and Cam Paddock. Hodge extended his point scoring streak to eight games with the assist. Joe Exter recorded his first shutout of the season my making 38 saves.

Saturday, January 29

Reading 2 @ Wheeling 3

The Nailers and the Royals were scoreless through almost two full periods before the offense kicked in. Eric Fortier gave the Royals a 1-0 lead in the final minute of the second period. Pascal Morency scored a goal for the second consecutive night to tie the game 1-1. The goal was scored at 1:20 of the third period from Brendon Hodge and Stefan Brannare. The Nailers too the lead on an Ed McGrane power play goal at 4:21. Reading tied the game 2-2 at 17:11. Evgeny Lazarev scored the game-winning goal with 36 seconds remaining in regulation. Hodge and Morency assisted on the goal. Joe Exter made 34 saves on 36 shots for the win.

Trenton 0 @ Wheeling 1

For the fourth time this season and second time on the weekend, the Nailers were involved in a 1-0 game. The Nailers and the Titans were scoreless through the first period. Wheeling scored the only goal of the game at 7:50 of the second period while on a power play. Evgeny Lazarev scored the goal from Brendon Hodge and Ray DiLauro. Hodge extended his point scoring streak to ten games with the assist. Joe Exter recorded his second 1-0 shutout win of the weekend by making 26 saves.

Player Notes: Joe Exter had two shutouts last week, both by scores of 1-0...Exter has now been involved in four 1-0 games this season and is 2-2-0 in those games...Six of Exter's 11 starts this season have been decided by a shutout...Ray DiLauro is tied for second in the league with 19 power play points with 19...He is also tied for second in the ECHL in points among defensemen with 29...Brendon Hodge is on a 10 game point scoring streak with 11 points in that span on two goals and nine assists...Ed McGrane and DiLauro are tied for the team lead with 29 points...McGrane leads the team with 13 goals and DiLauro leads the team with 21 assists...McGrane and DiLauro are the only Nailers to have played in all 41 games this season.

Team Notes: Wheeling has the second most home wins in the ECHL with 15...The Nailers are 16th in the league in power play at 16.4% and are tied for second in the league in penalty kill at 87.3%...The Nailers have the best home penalty kill at 91.6%...Wheeling is 26th in the league averaging 2.44 goals per game and are first in the league in goals against per game at 2.17...The Nailers are 12-0-0 when leading after the first period, 20-0-0 when leading after two periods...The Nailers have been in 25 games decided by one goal, tied for most in the league...They are 15-8-2 in one goal games.

Friday, February 4

San Diego @ Wheeling 7:30p.m.

The San Diego Gulls won the Brabham Cup last season with the most points in the league, the Nailers led the league a season ago with the most wins. This will be the first meeting ever between these teams. It will be a Corona Beach Party Night with Lei's being given out to the fans. It will also be American Heart Association Night with fans encouraged to wear red for the game.

Saturday, February 5

Wheeling @ Trenton 7:00p.m.

This will be the fifth game of the season between the Nailers and the Titans, the Nailers are 4-0-0 through the first four games. All four games have been decided by one goal, two games going to overtime.

Sunday, February 6

San Diego @ Wheeling 2:00p.m.

The Nailers close the weekend with their second game against San Diego. It will be a Super Sunday Tailgate as the Nailers host the Gulls before the Super Bowl.

Nailers Player of the Week:

The Nailers Player of the Week is Brendon Hodge. Hodge had four points in three games last week. He assisted on the Nailers only goal on Friday and Sunday and had two assists on Saturday. He played at a +3 for the week.

Nailers Goaltender of the Week:

The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Joe Exter. Exter was 3-0-0 with two shutouts in three games played last week. He made 38 saves for a 1-0 win on Friday, 34 saves on Saturday and 26 saves for a 1-0 win on Sunday. His goals against average for the week was 0.67 and his save percentage was .980.
