Fresno Falcons News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach Ice Dogs goaltender Chris Madden made 35 saves and his teammates in front of him scored three power play goals and a short-handed goal to shutout the Fresno Falcons at Long Beach Arena, 5-0.
Following a scoreless first period in which the Falcons out-shot Long Beach 15-11, the Ice Dogs took a commanding lead in the second. They drew first blood on the power play at 5:23 when Cory Urquhart poked in a rebound after an initial drive from the point squirted free from Fresno goaltender Brett Jaeger. Long Beach added to its lead two minutes later when Marco Rosa struck short-handed and then upped the advantage to 3-0 through 40 minutes with another power play goal after Nathan Martz found Christian Larrivee on the doorstep at 15:02.
The Ice Dogs scored again on the power play skating four-on-three into the third off a blast from Evan Cheverie before Nathan Martz added the final marker at 11:36 for his team's only even strength goal of the night.
Fresno was shutout for the fourth time this season and drops to 22-16-4 on the year but remains in a fourth-place tie in the West Division with the San Diego Gulls after San Diego lost earlier in the evening 5-2 to the Toledo Storm.
The Falcons next head to Victoria, British Columbia, for three games against the Victoria Salmon Kings on Feb. 2, 4 and 5 before returning home for a clash with the Bakersfield Condors on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Save Mart Center at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the game on Feb. 8 are on sale now for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at the Save Mart Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
