Gladiators Weekly Update
January 31, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Still Unbeaten: Adam Berkhoel continues to remain unbeaten this season in the ECHL posting a 4-3 shootout loss (tie) last night. Berkhoel has recorded a 2.82 goals against average and a .907 save percentage while posting a 1-0-4 record in 5 starts this season. All four overtime/shootout losses for Berkhoel have come in the shootout.
Foiled Them Again! For the second time in three games, the Gladiators scored with less than 20 seconds remaining in the third period to tie a game up and send it into overtime. Colin Stuart was the hero for the Gladiators in Florida on January 21st netting the tying goal with 12 seconds left in the third period while Kris Goodjohn was the hero for the Gladiators last night banging home the tying goal with 19 seconds left. The Gladiators beat Florida in a shootout, 4-3 while dropping last night's contest in a shootout, 4-3.
Back Together: It may have only been for an All-Star game, but Gladiators forwards Brett Engelhardt and Jeff Campbell seemed as if they never missed a beat as Engelhardt scored the second goal for the American Conference off an assist from Campbell early in the second period in Wednesday's Coors Light 2005 ECHL All Star Game. Despite the goal, the American Conference lost 6-2 to the National Conference.
Adding to the Total: Gladiators forward Kris Goodjohn continues to lead the team in scoring after picking up a goal and an assist in Friday's 4-3 shootout loss against the Columbia Inferno. Goodjohn has not posted 11 goals and 29 assists for 40 on the season. Goodjohn finished is rookie campaign last year with 19 goals and 37 assists for 56 points in 71 games.
In Double Digits: With an assist in Friday's 4-3 shootout loss, Adam Smyth became the 14th player on the Gladiators to post double digits in points on the season. Smyth now has 6 goals, 3 game winners, and 4 assists for 10 points.
