Overtime Loss Ends Strong January for Condors
January 31, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Last Week
Saturday, Long Beach 3 vs. CONDORS 2 (OT); attn: 7,792
With the second largest crowd of the season behind them on Connor James bobblehead night, the rookie notched a pair of assists in a 3-2 overtime loss to Long Beach. The battle between the top two teams in the league did not disappoint, with nearly 80 combined shots on goal, physical play, lead changes and finally a sudden death outcome. Yutaka Fukufuji ended his brilliant stretch of seven straight wins with 39 saves in the OTL. The Condors, who trailed 1-0 after the first period, couldn't hold the 2-1 lead in the third, and the Ice Dogs improved to 3-1-1 against Bakersfield.
Where we stand
Despite a 10-1-2 record in their last 13 games, the Condors have slipped to second place in the West Division, two points behind Long Beach. Bakersfield is second in the ECHL in points (58) and third in wins (26), but is tied with Pensacola for the best winning percentage (.690) and has lost the least number of games in regulation (10).
What's up this week
The Condors travel north to Alaska and meet up with the Aces for three games this week on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Wednesday and Thursday's games start at 8:15 p.m. and Saturday's game is at 3:05 (all times Pacific). All Condors games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com and now available for viewing through B2 Networks on the official Condors website.
The Condors return to California next week with road games on Tuesday and Wednesday in Fresno and San Diego, respectively, before coming back home for two games on February 11th and 12th. Fresno comes to town on the 11th with a special concert featuring national recording group Hawk Nelson after the game in Centennial Garden, sponsored by KKEY-TV 11 and Island Style.
