SOUND TIGERS WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT
EVGENY TUNIK
Center - Shoots: Left
Height: 6'2'' Weight: 200 lbs
Born: November 17, 1984 in Elektrostal, Russia
Drafted 2nd, 53rd overall, by the NY Islanders in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft
Currently on an AHL contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers
Editor's Note: Evgeny Tunik's command of the English language when he first joined the Sound Tigers last October could be summed up in three words, "little to none". However, Tunik's positive and outgoing personality has helped him learn enough to assimilate into life in America.
Did you study English in Russia? A little bit in school, but it was bad; just some words and rules.
Who has helped you with English the most on the team? My roommate, David Masse.
What is the funniest thing that has happened when you've gone out by yourself? Sometimes cashiers will ask again and again what I am saying. One time I was at the mall trying to order a taxi, and they couldn't understand when I was telling them where I was.
What do you like most about being in America? The hockey. The team, the organization, the fans...they are all great!
What do you like the least? It's hard to go places. Where I live in Russia, you can go anywhere for $5 in a taxi or just go on a bus.
What do you miss most about Russia? The food, borscht soup the most.
What do you miss the least? People here are more friendly; if you don't know a person back home, they won't say hi. Oh, and Russian soccer fans...they are crazy.
What do you want to do when you're finished playing? Maybe coach; I'm not sure yet. I just like to play!
