Abbotsford Heat News Release

Omaha, NE - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights are proud to announce that defenseman Brett Palin has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Omaha community during the 2005-06 season.

Palin has quickly insinuated himself into the greater Omaha community. The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' rookie defenseman has made repeated visits to the Children's Hospital of Omaha, meeting young patients and hospital staff. He has also worked with the Open Door Mission, serving Thanksgiving dinner to less fortunate families and individuals. In addition, he has been a guest reader at area schools, volunteering his time to encourage reading among youngsters. Palin has worked to grow hockey at its grass roots, participating in practices with local Omaha youth hockey groups.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights strive to get as many of their players involved in community causes. Palin has been the most enthusiastic participant, making the greatest number of appearances on behalf of the Knights this season. He has taken the lead amongst his teammates in promoting the Knights connection to the community.

In recognition of his efforts, Palin will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' home game.

Palin is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2005-06 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights return to action tomorrow when they visit the Chicago Wolves at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard live on 1420 KOTK and on the internet at omahaaksarbenknights.com. The game also can be viewed on-line using the link to B2 Networks on the Knights' home page.

The Knights then return home for the final two regular season home games. On Friday, they face their biggest game of the year, a showdown with the Iowa Stars at 7:00 p.m. The Knights and the Stars are currently tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division. On Saturday, the Knights host the Peoria Rivermen at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to Peoria for a 6:00 p.m. face-off on Sunday.

Tickets for all home games are available at the Civic Auditorium box office, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The box office is open through the opening face-off on game nights. Tickets may also be purchased through any Ticketmaster outlet, by phone at (402) 422-1212 or at Ticketmaster.com.
