NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals are proud to announce that left wing Mike Brown has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Hampton Roads community during the 2005-06 season.

Throughout the 2005-2006 campaign, Brown has played a big role in helping promote fan development and enjoyment for the Admirals, as well as making numerous community-wide appearances. He especially showed attention to children during the season.

In addition to participating in several Youth Hockey clinics in the Hampton Roads region, Brown also visit hospitalized children at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, and read to the patients during Dr. Seuss Birthday Read Across America.

For National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Day, Brown visited military veterans at the VA Medical Center in Hampton, VA. Afterwards, during a game in which he was scratched from the lineup, Brown sat with some of those same veterans who were in attendance.

In recognition of his efforts, Brown will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Admirals home game.

Brown is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2005-06 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
