Steeves Named Monsters Man of the Year

April 4, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release

Lowell, Mass. - The Lowell Lock Monsters are proud to announce that C Ryan Steeves has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Lowell community during the 2005-06 season.

Steeves has consistently been one of the most visible Lock Monsters in the Merrimack Valley community. In addition to his scheduled appearances at schools and community functions, Ryan has volunteered for many additional appearances and spent time with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club. In March, Steeves was the top individual fundraiser at the Monsters annual Skaters-2-Waiters dinner, in which the players serve as waiters to help collect "tips" and donations for charity.

"We're happy to select Ryan for this award and have him represent our organization," said Team President Kevin Cummings. "From offering his time to visit hospitals and schools, to being the first one to help a child make it around the rink at a skate with the team event, he just always seems to be there. He understands the position professional hockey players are in to be role models and gives his time and energy back to the fans that support the team."

In recognition of his efforts, Steeves will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Monsters home game.

Steeves is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2005-06 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month. The other players around the league who have been selected can be viewed at www.theahl.com.

Lowell continues their road trip with a pair of divisional games this weekend. On Saturday night they head to Portland to take on the first place Pirates at 7:05 p.m. On Sunday, it's on to Hartford for a 4:05 p.m. match with the Wolf Pack. Both games can be heard live on 980 WCAP, and viewed through B2 Networks, the official broadband provider of the AHL, with the "Voice of the Lock Monsters" Ryan Johnston. Log on to www.lockmonsters.com to watch or listen online.

The Monsters return home on Wednesday, April 12th against the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. In addition, the Monsters are offering a "2-for-1" special for the final weekend of the season, Fan Appreciation Weekend on April 15-16.
