Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS are proud to announce that defenseman Dean Arsene has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the BEARS community during the 2005-06 season.

Arsene, while playing in a remarkable 64 of 76 games to date, has been very active in the BEARS' community relations efforts. At the season ticket holder pick-up night he was the player to greet the crowd. He also took the initiative during our Season Ticket Holder skating party to interview players as they chatted with fans. After every home game, win or lose, Dean meets with a Big Brothers / Big Sisters to give them a behind the scenes look at a game. Dean has visited the less than 6 schools helping to show the importance of reading to today's youth. He has also visited the Children's hospital three times this season, while making countless other public appearances. Dean's willingness to participate in community is truly admirable.

In recognition of his efforts, Arsene will be presented with an etched crystal trophy on April 15, 2006, during player awards night.

Arsene is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2005-06 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
