Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs are proud to announce that goaltender Adam Hauser has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Manchester community and charitable organizations during the 2005-06 season.
Hauser has become the spokesman for the Monarchs when it comes to going out into the community. Hauser takes pride in spreading a good message to children in the community. He enjoys talking about the Monarchs and bringing fans into his world as a professional athlete.
Hauser is a huge advocate for the Monarchs Goals For Success program and D.A.R.E. Graduation program. On the DVD presentation videos for each program, Hauser is passionate about teaching youth the importance of setting goals and accomplishing those tasks, and he speaks from the heart when discussing his decision to stay away from drugs and alcohol, enabling him to lead an improved way of life. He also enjoys going out to local schools to help spread the messages in person and impact young lives.
Goals For Success allows kids to interact with players in an educational setting. It is geared toward elementary students and features Monarchs players visiting schools throughout southern New Hampshire to discuss the importance of setting and achieving goals and leading a healthy lifestyle. Hauser jumps at the opportunity to go to local schools to speak with the children on a more personal level and share his story with them.
In partnership with D.A.R.E. New Hampshire and the New Hampshire State Police, the Monarchs have a D.A.R.E. Graduation Video that includes members of the Monarchs and a drug-free message for area youth. Monarchs' players, including Hauser, speak about the importance of staying away from drugs and alcohol. Hauser is able to speak honestly about the dangers and temptations kids face nowadays, and what he faced growing up. He conveys the importance of staying focused on your dreams and how saying no has helped him to achieve his goal of being a professional hockey player.
Hauser enthusiastically joined in Read Across America month in March by visiting Center Wood Elementary School in Weare, New Hampshire, and reading, H Is For Hat Trick, to the fourth grade students.
In addition to the Monarchs Goals For Success program, D.A.R.E. anti-drug program and Read Across America, Hauser has also participated in the Monarchs annual Kids Club Party and Season Ticket Holder Meet & Greet, "At Your Service" annual event, youth hockey practices, restaurant promotions, Booster Club meetings and hospital visits this season.
Hauser also recorded a public service announcement video for the New Hampshire State Highway Patrol encouraging viewers to not drink and drive. The New Hampshire Business Resource Center placed Hauser in an ad that promotes local businesses to seek free services from the state to assist them in gaining success in the region.
Hauser returns to Manchester each summer to host a personal, one-on-one goaltender camp for youth in New Hampshire. Along with his week long camp in Manchester, Hauser organizes and holds three additional summer camps in Minnesota each summer.
In recognition of his efforts, Hauser will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Monarchs home game.
Hauser is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2005-06 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
The Monarchs will host the Springfield Falcons at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday, April 5 at 7:05 p.m.
