San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO (Apr. 4, 2006) - The San Antonio Rampage are proud to announce that defenseman Joe Callahan has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the San Antonio community during the 2005-06 season.

Callahan has been one of the most active players in the Rampage's community relations efforts with over 20 appearances to date. The alternate captain has made appearances ranging from reading to kids at schools, building bears for charity, skating with fans after a game to passing out free gifts to the community to promote the Rampage.

This season our sales department started a new program to thank season ticket holders for their contributions to the team. Joe is always first to volunteer his time and energy to this program and any other event in the community. He has participated in all events from going to the movies with season ticket holders, to giving locker room tours, to mingling one-on-one with the fans at post game parties.

In recognition of his efforts, Callahan will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Rampage home game.

Callahan is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2005-06 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
