Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

The Hamilton Bulldogs are proud to announce that center Corey Locke has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Hamilton community during the 2005-06 season.

Locke was very active in the community this season. The native of Newmarket, Ontario visited several elementary schools in the Hamilton area, reading to children and speaking to them about the importance of school, health, and self-esteem as part of the Healthy Habits and Read Like A Pro initiatives.

In addition to visiting schools, the 2006 AHL All-Star attended many team events including the annual player visit to McMaster Children's Hospital and the Bulldogs' Kids Club Bowling Party. Locke assisted in raising money for the Hamilton Bulldogs Youth Fund by participating in the Player Draft, interacting with fans at the Bulldogs' first ever Casino Night and taking part in the Second Annual Pizza Pizza Skills Competition.

In recognition of his efforts, Locke will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Bulldogs home game.

Locke is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2005-06 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
