January 26, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
The Hartford Wolf Pack scored two goals less than a minute apart midway through the second period en route to a 4-2 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers before 5,519 fans at the Hartford Civic Center Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Friday night. The Wolf Pack improved to 26-17-3-0 and the Sound Tigers dropped to 19-18-1-4.
Dwight Helminen and Dane Byers scored in a span of just 46 seconds to snap a 1-1 tie and the Wolf Pack never looked back. Hartford has won each of the last five meetings between the Connecticut rivals, with four of those tilts decided by just one goal. The Wolf Pack improved to 11-1-1-0 in the new calendar year. Bridgeport, meanwhile, lost in regulation for only the second time in nine contests to begin the 2007 portion of their schedule.
Sound Tiger Jeff Tambellini extended his points streak to seven games with an assist and Masi Marjamaki scored his second goal of the year, and second in as many games. Marjamaki scored the game's first goal when he deflected a shot by Mark Wotton at 9:33 of the first. Hartford evened the score at one apiece when Darius Kaspraitis set up Brad Isbister for his ninth tally of the campaign at 17:15 of the opening stanza.
Helminen made it 2-1 Wolf Pack with his 10th goal, a power play net-finder, at 8:25 of the middle period. Byers scored his 10th for a 3-1 lead at 9:11.
Eric Boguniecki registered a goal for the third consecutive game and snipped the deficit to one at 3-2 with his 11th goal at 12:02 of the second. Tambellini earned the primary assist on Boguniecki's goal, a power play tally. The Wolf Pack got its two-goal cushion back at 18:34 of the frame on Isbister's second of the night and 10th of the year. Bryce Lampman picked up his second assist of the evening on the goal to make it 4-2.
Hartford goaltender Al Montoya stopped 29 of 31 Sound Tiger shots and Bridgeport's Wade Dubielewicz kicked aside 37 of the Wolf Pack's 41 shots on goal. Both goaltenders were perfect in the third period, each making 13 saves. The Sound Tigers were 1-for-9 on the power play and Hartford was 2-for-7 on the man advantage.
The Sound Tigers return to the Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. Great seats are available at the Arena at Harbor Yard Box Office.
