Bears gunning for top spot Friday in Norfolk
January 26, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
The top two teams in the American Hockey League square off Friday night at Norfolk Scope, with HERSHEY looking to regain the top spot in the East Division. The game is the eighth of ten meetings between the two teams this season, and it's also the front half of a home-and-home series this weekend. The BEARS will host Norfolk at GIANT Center Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
Goaltender Daren Machesney is expected to draw the start Friday night for HERSHEY. Nolan Scheafer, who was acquired Tuesday from the San Jose/Worcester Sharks on loan, is expected to make his debut at home Saturday night. The game Friday in Norfolk may break an Admirals AHL franchise record for attendance. Over 7,200 fans viewed last Friday's Norfolk game with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and tonight's game may top that mark according to tickets already sold. Defenseman Jamie Hunt did not make the
trip to Norfolk due to an undisclosed upper body injury, and Jeff Schultz remains on recall to Washington as the BEARS enter play Friday.
HERSHEY stands one point out of first place with 66 as Friday's action gets underway, and the BEARS are also one win short of 30 with 35 games remaining. The night on ice Friday in the East Division features Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Philadelphia, the Binghamton Senators traveling to face Worcester at the DCU Center and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on the road to face the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Albany River Rats are the only team in the division that has the night off.
Friday's game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM, 1490-AM, 960-AM). John Walton has the call of the game from Norfolk beginning at 6:55 p.m. Very few tickets remain for Saturday's game at GIANT Center against Norfolk. Call for ticket information at (717) 534-3911.
