Falcons Host Devils Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Lowell Devils meet for the sixth time this season when they take the ice at the MassMutual Center Friday night starting at 7:35 PM. The Falcons and Devils have squared off twice in Springfield this season with the two teams each winning one game. Springfield leads the overall season series at 3-2 with the last meeting between these two divisional rivals occurring back on December 6 when Lowell beat Springfield 4-2. These two Atlantic Division foes are only separated by three points in the division standings with the Falcons just ahead of the Devils in sixth place. Springfield captain Norm Milley leads the scoring against Lowell this year with two goals and six assists for eight points in five games played. Left wing Eric Healey and center Blair Jones are second on the Falcons in scoring against the Devils this year with seven points each in five games. Justin Papineau leads Lowell in scoring against Springfield with two goals and three assists for five points in four games. Goaltender Frank Doyle has played in all five games against Springfield this season and has posted a 2.62 goals against average and 88.5 save percentage.

The Falcons will strive to snap their mini two-game losing streak tonight after falling to the Manchester Monarchs 4-2 Wednesday night at the Verizon Wirless Arena. Doug O'Brien opened the scoring on the power play against Manchester before the Monarchs used three second period goals in a span of seven minutes to take a two-goal lead. Center Daniel Corso cut Springfield's deficit to 3-2 before Manchester added an empty net goal. Goaltender Karri Ramo was very steady in goal stopping 28 of the 31 shots he faced. Springfield will play their next two games on home ice before breaking on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday for the AHL's All-Star Game in Toronto, Ontario. Ramo will represent the Falcons at the mid-season classic.

The Devils head into Springfield looking to snap a season-high four game winless streak going 0-3-1-0 in that span, including three straight regulation losses. Lowell enters tonight's contest with a record of 19-20-3-1 good for 42 points and seventh place in the Atlantic Division. The Devils haven't played since last Sunday when they were defeated by the Worcester Sharks 3-2. Three of Lowell's last four games have been decided by one goal or less. The Devils will also conclude their schedule prior to the All-Star Break on home ice when they host the Portland Pirates at the Paul Tsongas Arena on Saturday.

NINE OF HIS LAST 10: Falcons forward David Spina has registered at least a point in nine of his last 10 games collecting three goals and nine assists for 12 points in that span. The Mesa, Arizona native has moved into ninth on the team in scoring with five goals and nine assists for 14 points in 39 games played.

THREE OF HIS LAST FOUR: Falcons defenseman Doug O'Brien has scored a goal in three of his last four games and now has five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 39 games and is currently eighth on the team in scoring. O'Brien is second to Andy Delmore for the team lead in scoring among defensemen.

PLAYER TRANSACTIONS: The Falcons announced Thursday that forwards Andre Deveaux and Adam Henrich have been recalled from their ECHL affiliate, the Johnstown Chiefs. The Falcons also announced that forwards Maxime Boisclair and Randy Rowe have been reassigned to the Chiefs. Henrich has played in 26 games with the Chiefs this season collecting eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points. Henrich has also played in five games with the Falcons this year collecting one goal. Deveaux has played in 21 games with Johnstown and has registered six goals and eight assists for 14 points with 51 penalty minutes. Deveaux started the season in Springfield picking up two assists in six games played.

LOWELL PLAYER STREAKS: Defenseman Mike Mottau returned to the Devils lineup on January 5 after missing the first 35 games due to injury and has registered at least one assist in four of has last five games.....Rookie defenseman Andy Greene scored his fourth goal of the year last Sunday in his first game back from a stint with the New Jersey Devils. In five games with New Jersey, Greene pick up one assist....Rookie Stephen Gionta has goals in consecutive games entering tonight's action, his first set of goals since October 20....Tuomas Pihlman has collected at least a point in three straight games picking up three assists in that span.
