Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs moved into a second-place tie in the North Division with the Manitoba Moose, following a 3-2 win over the San Antonio Rampage on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. The win was the âDogs third-straight victory and improved their record to 26-18-1-1.
The game was delayed for 49 minutes, as the San Antonio Rampage arrived late to Copps Coliseum due to weather conditions. The puck dropped at 8:19 p.m. Eastern time.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring just nine seconds into their first power play of the game when Mikhail Grabovski knocked in Matt D'Agostini's errant shot off the glass past the Rampage starting goaltender David LeNeveu. Andrei Kostitsyn also earned an assist on Grabovski's 13th goal of the season at 1:08 of the first period.
Hamilton scored again with a man advantage at 12:56 of the first period when Duncan Milroy tipped a Danny Groulx shot from the point into the San Antonio net. The goal was Milroy's 20th of the season, marking the first time in his professional career that he reached the 20-goal plateau.
Jonathan Ferland posted his 11th goal of the season when he banged home a rebound after a shot by Grabovski to make the score 3-0. Kostitsyn also assisted on the eventual game-winning goal that was scored at 18:25 of the first frame on a 5-on-3 power play.
San Antonio cut into Hamilton's lead with a power-play marker at 17:56 of the middle stanza, courtesy of Bill Thomas' 13th tally of the season. From the side of Yann Danis's crease, Chris Ferraro and Matt Jones set-up Thomas, who spun and went to the five-hole for the goal.
The Rampage pulled within a goal, making the score 3-2, at 4:30 of the third period when the club's leading scorer, Yanick Lehoux, snapped his 21st goal of the year over Danis's glove hand. Keith Yandle and Pascal Rheaume assisted on the play.
Bulldogs defenceman Andre Benoit played in his 100th career AHL game.
Yann Danis made 20 saves on 22 shots for the Bulldogs, picking up his third win in as many games. At the other end of the ice, David LeNeveu stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced in a losing effort for the Rampage.
Hamilton went 3-for-7 on the power play, while San Antonio was 1-for-2 with the extra-man.
The Bulldogs return to action at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27th when they host the Manitoba Moose in a showdown for second place in the North Division at Copps Coliseum.
