Knights' Streak Ends To Wolves, 5-0

January 26, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights were unable to overcome a persistent Chicago Wolves attack and their streak of seven consecutive wins came to an end in a 5-0 loss on Friday night at the Civic Auditorium. The loss also ended the Knights' franchise record six-game home win streak.

The Wolves opened the scoring as Darren Haydar snuck in a 2-on-1 with Corey Larose and picked the top corner over Knights' starter Curtis McElhinney at 6:55 of the first period. The Knights looked as if they had tied the game two minutes later; however a goaltender interference called waved off a chance by David Van der Gulik.

Chicago extended their lead at 9:42 of the second period. Sterling jumped on the rebound in front of the net off a Nathan Oystrick point shot and slid the puck into the unguarded net.

The Wolves would add to their lead while on a two-man powerplay in the third period. Sterling collected his second goal of the game as his attempted pass deflected off a Knights defender and into the net. Less than 30 seconds later, Chicago struck again as Jordan Lavalle converted the rebound of a shot by Kyle Wanvig for the five-on-four goal

LaValle capped the scoring as he deflected a point shot from Mark Popovic with 25.6 seconds remaining in the game.

The Knights are now 28-14-3-0.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights return to action on Friday when they begin a two game set with the San Antonio Rampage at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for all Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' games are on sale at the Omaha Civic Auditorium box office Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tickets also are available through all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at (402) 422-1212.
