
Devils stage huge comeback in Springfield, 5-3

Springfield, MA - The Lowell Devils (20-20-3-1) overcame a three-goal deficit with five unanswered tallies to take a 5-3 victory over the Springfield Falcons (22-24-0-1) Friday night at the MassMutual Center.
It looked as if the first period would end in a scoreless tie. Lowell outshot Springfield 9-5 in the period, but the Falcons took the lead in the final minute of the period. Norm Milley potted his 17th of the season, finding the top shelf on G Jordan Parise just eight seconds before the intermission. It was his third goal and ninth point in six games of the season series.
Andre Deveaux made it 2-0 in favor of the home team at 12:03, burying a rebound from the top of the crease. Just 48 seconds later the Falcons had a 3-0 lead, with Eric Healey lighting the lamp for the 20th time this season. Ryan Murphy put the Devils on the board at 17:43 with a power play tally from the right circle. The Devils led in shots 18-13 through 40 minutes.
The Devils poured it on in the third. Lowell made it a one-goal game in the opening minute of the third. Grant Marshall knocked in a rebound of a Mark Fraser shot for his fourth of the year 34 seconds in. Nicklas Bergfors erased the deficit with his 11th of the season at 2:25. Dan McGillis assisted on both third period tallies. David Clarkson put the Devils in front for the first time in the game by firing home his 13th of the season at the 7:00 mark, making it 4-3. Tuomas Pihlman added th! e empty netter to complete the comeback and seal the win.
Lowell outshot the Falcons 28-20 in the game. The victory put the Devils one point behind sixth-place Springfield in the Atlantic Division, and two points behind Saturday's opponent, the Portland Pirates, for fifth place.
The Devils are back on home ice this Saturday, January 27th to host the Portland Pirates. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Lowell is 1-2-0-0 against the Pirates this season, and Saturday's game is the first meeting between the two since November 24th. The 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic takes place from Sunday to Monday, with Monday's All-Star Game taking place at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.
