Six Legends to play nine at Augusta

LEXINGTON, KY. – The South Atlantic League announced that seven Lexington Legends would represent the Northern Division in the 2005 SAL All-Star Game to be played in Augusta, Georgia on June 28th.

Second baseman Jonny Ash, Shortstop Ben Zobrist, Centerfielder Hunter Pence, Right-fielder Francisco Caraballo and pitcher Troy Patton were selected as starters. Pitcher Jimmy Barthmaier was added to the pitching staff. Legends Manager Tim Bogar was picked as a coach.

Ash has been the catalyst for the first place Legends. Jonny is among the league's top hitters with a .319 average, eight home runs and 34 RBI. Jonny is also the top defensive second baseman with a .985 percentage.

Ben Zobrist is hitting .291 with two homers and 27 RBI. Ben leads the Legends with 14 stolen bases. Zobrist leads all SAL shortstop's in defensive percentage with a .968 mark.

Hunter Pence is in the middle of a monster first half. Pence leads Minor League Baseball in home runs (22) and total bases (157). Pence leads the SAL in RBI (50), slugging percentage (.704) and extra base hits (35). Pence is sixth with a .341 batting average.

Francisco Caraballo holds the longest hitting streak in the SAL with a run of 15 straight games. Caraballo is among the top defensive players in the league with a .982 percentage. Frankie is hitting .276 with nine homers and 34 RBI.

Troy Patton (4-0) is one of the top pitchers in all of Minor League Baseball. Patton's ERA is at a Minor League best 0.98 through twelve starts. Patton currently has a streak of 31 consecutive scoreless innings. The streak is a Lexington record and is 8 2/3 short of the SAL record.

Jimmy Barthmaier is 5-2 with an excellent 1.93 ERA. Barthmaier has a not given up a run in thirteen straight innings and has a .178 batting average against him, tops among Legends starters.

Manager Tim Bogar has guided the Legends to a 37-24 mark and into a first place tie with Hagerstown with nine games left in the first half.
