
Captains eclipse Suns again

(Hagerstown, MD)--Juan Valdes tripled home two runs in the seventh inning Friday night, helping the Captains to a 4-3 win over the Hagerstown Suns at Municipal Stadium.
The Captains (36-26) won three of four games in the series and knocked the Suns out of the top spot in the SAL North Division. The Lexington Legends defeated West Virginia 7-4 to move into first place, a game ahead of the Suns and two ahead of the Captains.
Valdes laced a triple down the right-field line off Matt Miramontes (3-1) in the seventh after Miramontes issued back-to-back walks to Josh Noviskey and Marshall Szabo. Valdes's hit erased a 3-2 Hagerstown lead, and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
Mike Butia and fernando Pacheco also had RBI's for the Captains.
Brandon Rickert (4-0) earned the win for the Captains. Rickert worked two innings in relief of starter Reid Santos, who left after four innings. Rickert allowed three hits and one run. Kieran Mattison pitched a perfect ninth for he second straight night, and picked up his 11th save.
The Captains will move on to Salisbury, maryland, to open a four-game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds on Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. (WELW AM 1330, WKKY FM 104.7).
