
Three Gnats selected for All-Star game

SAVANNAH, Ga. â Three Savannah Sand Gnats have been chosen to represent the South Atlantic League Southern Division in the SAL All-Star Game June 28 at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Ga. The All Stars were elected by team media relations personnel, media members and managers and coaches.
Right fielder Edgardo Baez (.266 AVG., 6 HR, 31 RBI, 7 SB) will serve as a utility outfielder for the SAL Southern Division squad. Baez has played in 55 games for the Gnats in 2005, toiling in right field for 54 of those contests. He was a fourth round pick of the Montreal Expos in 2003 and hit .178, 5 HR, 29 RBI for Savannah in 2004.
Relief pitcher Brett Campbell (2-0, 12 SV, 0.91 ERA) has been chosen as one of the team's ten pitchers. Campbell leads the Gnats staff in appearances (22), saves and ERA. A former 34th round draft choice of the Montreal Expos in 2004, the right hander is in his first season with Savannah after splitting 2004 between the Gulf Coast League Expos, Vermont (NYP) and Brevard County (FSL).
Catcher Devin Ivany (.267, 6 HR, 26 RBI) will serve as a backup catcher for the Southern squad. Ivany has appeared in 37 games at catcher for the Gnats and an additional eight times has served as the designated hitter. In 2004, the former sixth round draft pick of Montreal hit .170 in 32 games with Savannah.
