
Greensboro boasts two All-Stars

(GREENSBORO, NC) The South Atlantic League has announced the 46th Annual All-Star team and Greensboro is sending two of their own. The 2005 All-Star will be held at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, GA.
Greensboro Closer Chris Mobley has been selected to join the other Northern Division pitchers in the All Star roster while outfielder Brett Carroll has been selected as a utility player.
During the season Mobley has racked up 15 saves (his 15th came in Thursday night's game) with a 2.30 ERA. Mobley has allowed 12 hits in 23 games played and 27.1 innings pitched. He has struck out 35 batters and walked 10. Mobley is currently second in the South Atlantic League in saves behind Charleston's Mike Martinez who has 19 saves this season. Mobley was selected by the Marlins in the 22nd round of the 2004 First Year Player Draft.
The second pick representing Greensboro is Brett Carroll who was selected as a utility player for the annual game. Carroll, an outfielder for the Hoppers is hitting .261in 54 games played. He has 13 doubles, 1 triple, 11 homeruns and 22 RBI. He led the team in slugging percentage until recently losing his first place spot to Greensboro first baseman Brad McCann. Carroll currently has a slugging percentage of .516 and an on base percentage of .303. Carroll was selected by Florida in the 10th round of the 2004 season.
"The teams representing the Northern and Southern Divisions in the 2005 South Atlantic League All-Star Game are full of great, young talent some of whom are destined to become future Major League Players and who will surely provide for a very exciting game in Augusta, GA," said SAL President John H. Moss.
The Northern Division club will be led by Gene Richards, the Field Manager of the Hagerstown Suns. He has guided the team to their current lead in the South Atlantic League Northern Division First Half Title chase. Tim Bogar, Field Manager for the Lexington Legends will serve as a coach for the Northern Division. Shawn Barton, also of the Hagerstown Suns, will be the club's pitching coach. Matthew Hunter of the Hagerstown Suns will be the Northern Division Trainer.
Lexington placed the most players on the South Atlantic League Northern Division All-Star roster with six players. Scheduled starting pitcher Troy Patton, pitcher Jimmy Barthmaier, starting second baseman Jonny Ash, starting shortstop Ben Zobrist, starting right-fielder Francisco Carabello and starting centerfielder Hunter Pence. The Hagerstown Suns placed five on the roster including pitcher Jose Sanchez, pitcher Gabriel Hernandez, starting first baseman Mike Carp, starting third baseman Grant Psomas and starting left-fielder Dante Brinkley. The Delmarva Shorebirds, the Lake County Captains and the Lakewood BlueClaws placed three players each on the team. Along with Greensboro, Hickory will have two players represented while the West Virginia Power has one. The Northern Division consists of 25 players total with a representative from each South Atlantic League Northern Division team.
