Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC – For his efforts in leading the Charleston RiverDogs to a successful first half and professional baseball's best won-loss record at one point, Bill Mosiello has been selected as the manager for the South Atlantic League Southern Division All-Star Team. In addition, Mosiello tabbed RiverDogs pitching coach Steve Renko as one of his coaches for the annual mid-summer classic in Augusta on June 28.

"This is a tremendous honor and I'm appreciative to two special groups who helped make it happen, the players and the coaches," said Mosiello. "I'm very excited about this opportunity, but it would not have happened if the players and coaches didn't do their jobs. This is a flat-out team award."

The RiverDogs skipper has guided his squad to a 40-20 record, the best mark in the SAL and five games ahead of the second-place Augusta Greenjackets with nine games left to play in the first half. The RiverDogs have won eight of their last 10, 12 of their last 15, and 19 of their last 25. Charleston is 25-9 since May 3.

This is his first appointment to a professional baseball all-star team.

Mosiello is in his first season at the helm of the RiverDogs and his first full season as a manager in the Yankees organization. He guided low A Battle Creek to a 58-50 record after taking over as manager on May 11, 2004. Now in his third year with the Yankees organization, the native of Anthem, AZ, spent time in the collegiate ranks as a coach at Cerritos Junior College, Cal-State Fullerton, the University of Tennessee, the University of Mississippi, the University of Oklahoma and Arizona State University. He has also managed in the Alaska Summer League, the Cape Cod League and the Great Lakes League.

Renko is the veteran pitching coach who has guided the RiverDogs' staff to the best ERA in the league (3.18). The resident Leewood, KS, spent 15 years in the Major Leagues, having played for the Expos, Cubs, White Sox, A's, Red Sox, Angels and Royals.

"This is truly an honor but it wouldn't have happened without the kids and the way they've played," he said. "It will be a fun time for everyone and that is something we preach all year. One doesn't want to get stressed out at an all-star game."

This is Renko's second appointment to the midsummer classic but the first one that he'll attend.

Torre Tyson, the RiverDogs' hitting coach, was also selected but due to a prior family commitment will not be able to participate
