
Otness and Pinckney named to All-Star team

The Greenville Bombers received word on Friday that first baseman John Otness and third baseman Andrew Pinckney were named to the South Atlantic League's Southern Division all-star team.
Otness is currently second in the league in batting average with a .371 mark through 49 games this season. The University of Washington product was named the Topps® South Atlantic League Player of the Month in addition to being named the Boston Red Sox Offensive Player of the Month for May.
The 23-year old compiled a .406 batting average in which he collected 43 hits in 106 at bats during 29 games played in May. Otness currently leads the team in slugging percentage (.518) and on-base percentage (.435). The undrafted free-agent has been the definition of plate discipline as evidenced by his 16 walks to go against 16 strikeouts.
Otness becomes the first Bombers catcher named to the all-star team since Justin Huber represented the Bombers in 2002.
Pinckney leads the Bombers with six home runs and 39 RBI in 56 games at the "hot corner". The 23-year old has also accumulated the most total bases for Greenville, tallying 100 bases this season.
A 33rd round draft pick out of Emory (GA) University, Pinckney also heated up in the month of May; hitting at a .327 clip and driving in 18 runs in 27 games. Pinckney concluded the Bombers' last home stand with a walk-off, 3-run home run to give Greenville an 8-6 victory over Greensboro.
Pinckney becomes the third Bombers third baseman named to the team in the past 4 years, joining David Wright (2002) and Aarom Baldiris (2003) since 2002.
The 46th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game is to by played on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Georgia.
