Johnson and Malone named co-pitchers of the month

Columbus, GA – Columbus Catfish RHP Blake Johnson and RHP Chris Malone were named co-pitchers of the month for the Los Angeles Dodgers during the month of May. Former Catfish second baseman Andy LaRoche, now with the Vero Beach Dodgers, was named batter of the month for the second consecutive month.

Johnson, a second round draft selection in 2004, started five games during the month, going 3-1 with a 0.91 earned run average, holding opposing hitters to a .163 batting average. This season, Johnson has posted a 3-3 record with a team leading 2.92 earned run average. Malone, who signed as an undrafted free agent last August, appeared in 8 games, including 5 starts, posting a 4-1 record with a 1.15 earned run average. On May 31, Malone pitched eight innings of perfect ball at Greenville before surrendering a single to the first batter in the ninth inning. This season Malone has a 5-2 record with a 3.30 earned run average and a team leading 2 complete games. "It's a great sign of the quality of baseball that fans will see when they attend a Catfish game", said General Manager Jim Beaudoin.

The Catfish continue their eight-game road trip tonight at 7:00pm against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Florida Marlins). The game can be heard on WDAK-540 am beginning at 6:50. The Catfish return home on Thursday, June 16th at 7:00pm to take on the Rome Braves. On Friday, June 17th the game against Rome will follow with a spectacular fireworks display.
