
BlueClaws Lose on Walk Off Homer

Salisbury, MD â The Lakewood BlueClaws (21-40) wrapped up their series with the Delmarva Shorebird (27-35), Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, on Friday night with a 4-3 loss. Jason Franz hit a two-run homer to give the Shorebirds the win and a sweep of the short two game series.
Lakewood entered the bottom of the ninth holding onto a 3-2 lead. Jacob Barrack (L, 0-1) came in relief of starter Andy Baldwin who pitched eight innings. Barrack was able to get the first two batters out in the inning but then gave up a hit to catcher Matt Houston to put the tying run on base. Franz then connected for a two-run walk off homer to give the Shorebirds the win.
Houston and Franz were both 0-for-3 on the night before getting back to back hits in the ninth. It was Barrack's first blown save of the year.
The BlueClaws broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning on an RBI double from Mike Dzurilla. With two outs Chris Klemm reached on a base hit then scored the go-ahead run on Dzurilla's double.
Lakewood led 2-1 entering the sixth inning but the Shorebirds were able to get a run to tie the game at 2-2. Jacob Duncan led off the inning with a double. Eric Grimm then reached on Brad Harman's fielding error allowing Duncan to move up to third. After Arturo Rivas struck out for the first out C.J. Smith reached on a fielder's choice allowing Duncan to score from third to tie the game.
The BlueClaws took a 2-0 lead in the third with the help of two walks and two errors. Ryan Frith led off the inning with a walk then moved up to second on a throwing error from the pitcher Radhames Liz. After Klemm flied out to center for the first out Dzurilla walked to put runners on first and second. Brad Harman then connected for an RBI base hit scoring Frith from second. On the play center-fielder Rivas threw the ball away trying to get Dzurilla out at third. The error allowed Dzrurilla to score and gave the BlueClaws a 2-0 lead.
Baldwin pitched eight innings allowing two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out four to get the no decision. Jason Jaramillo was 2-for-4 with a double while Dzurilla went 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and an RBI.
The BlueClaws now travel to Charleston West Virginia for a four game set with the Power beginning Saturday night. The BlueClaws will send right-hander Carlos Carrasco (1-6, 6.02) to the mound. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions, fireworks every Friday night home game and kids eat free Monday Nights courtesy of Shop Rite.
