Lake County Captains News Release

(Eastlake, OH)—The South Atlantic League has announced selections for the 46th annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game, which will be played on Tuesday, June 28th in Augusta, Georgia. Three Lake County Captains players have been named to the Northern Division club.

Pitchers Aaron Laffey and Tony Sipp and infielder Argenis Reyes were all named as reserves for the Northern Division squad, which will be managed by Hagerstown's Gene Richards.

Laffey, a 6-foot, 180-pound lefthander, is 5-2 with a 2.45 ERA for the Captains. In 11 appearances covering 62 1/3 innings, Laffey, 20, has allowed just 17 earned runs. He has held opposing hitters to a .227 average. Laffey's 2.45 ERA currently ranks seventh in the SAL. A third-year pro out of Cumberland, Maryland, Laffey was a 16th round draft pick of the Indians in 2003.

Sipp, another lefty in the Captains starting rotation, enjoyed a 22 2/3 scoreless innings streak to begin his season. He is currently 3-1, with a 2.25 ERA, which ranks sixth in the SAL. Sipp, a 6-foot, 180-pound native of Moss Point, Mississippi, has walked 18 and fanned 58 in 56 innings this season. On May 16th at Hickory, Sipp, 21, threw seven no-hit innings against the Crawdads before leaving the game due to his pitch limit. Sipp played his final college season at Clemson before signing in the 45th round of the 2004 draft.

Reyes, 22, has been the Captains most consistent hitter this season. A versatile defender who has played third, short, second and center, Reyes is currently hitting .327 with two home runs and 33 RBI. Entering Friday's game at Hagerstown, Reyes has hit in seven straight games, going 20 for his last 34 (.588). He became just the second player in Captains history to get five hits in a game when he went 5-6 against Delmarva last Monday, June 6th. Reyes, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound native of Santiago, Dominican Republic, belted a grand slam home run and drove in six runs in the Captains 13-3 win over Kannapolis May 4th.

Teams for the all-star game are comprised divided between Northern and Southern Division clubs. The managers, starting pitchers and starting position players are selected via a vote from league managers, general managers and media personnel. Reserves are selected by each manager.
