Paxton Promoted

August 15, 2008 - South Atlantic League (SAL) - Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA - The Catfish have promoted catcher Ian Paxton to Vero Beach, the Tampa Bay Rays High Class-A affiliate in the Florida State League. Paxton is the 2nd Catfish to be promoted from Columbus to Vero Beach, following in the footsteps of second-basemen Joey Callender.

Paxton, a 23 year old catcher, will be joining the Vero Beach Rays tonight. Paxton put up some good numbers in part-time duty this season, hitting .270 in 89 at-bats with 3 home runs. Two of Paxton's home runs came in the same game, as he and Reid Fronk are the only Catfish this season to have multi-home run games. With Paxton leaving, Stephen Vogt and Shawn Williams will share back-up catching duties.

The Catfish begin a 4-game set against the Hagerstown Suns to conclude their 8-game homestand against Northern Division foes. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.

The Catfish are the Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
